HARTFORD, CT – June 14, 2018To align its operating structure with its global model of regional and product-focused affiliates, leading global investment management firm Conning today announced several organizational changes and executive appointments designed to further enhance client service and investment strategy.

Conning North America

Conning-branded asset management operations in North America are being rolled into a consolidated regional unit under the leadership of Michael Haylon, who has been appointed to the newly created role of Head of Conning North America. He reports to Woody Bradford, Chair and Chief Executive Officer, and will be responsible for all Conning-branded investment management, sales and investment operations functions in North America, as well as Conning’s Insurance Research and Risk Solutions businesses. Haylon, who recently held the role of Head of Sales and Marketing and Insurance Research at Conning and has served on the Operating Committee, has extensive industry and investment experience. He has served as Chief Investment Officer and Chief Financial Officer at several public companies, and earlier in his career was a portfolio manager and analyst.

Global Investment Strategy

To ensure clients have access to Conning’s best global thinking around macroeconomic issues and their implications for portfolio construction and ongoing investment management, Rich Sega assumes a new role as Global Chief Investment Strategist, also reporting to Bradford. Sega will coordinate Conning’s global investment strategy and work across the firm’s regional businesses to formulate macroeconomic views.

Sega previously served as Chief Investment Officer at Conning where he was responsible for credit research, investment management and trading. Before joining Conning, Sega was President and CEO of Charter Oak Capital Management, Inc. prior to that firm’s acquisition by Conning in 2000.

LDI Leadership

Unrelated to the above announcements, Sean Kurian, who has played an integral role in the development of Conning’s LDI business, has been named Head of Pension LDI Solutions, reporting to Haylon. Kurian previously served as the Head of Structuring & Derivatives Portfolio Management at Conning where he was responsible for all aspects of the portfolio management and trading of derivatives and also for structuring investment solutions for institutional clients. Kurian was previously with J.P. Morgan Asset Management where he was the Lead Structuring Specialist & Derivatives Portfolio Manager for their LDI Solutions Group. Kurian succeeds Owais Rana, who is leaving the firm. Conning’s LDI business focuses on developing tailored outcome-oriented investment solutions for pension plans globally.

The changes to Conning’s organization are effective immediately.
