Conning Climate Risk Analyzer™ featured in the Climate AIR Toolbox

HARTFORD, CT and LONDON – July 28, 2022 – Conning, a leading provider of risk and capital management software and professional services to the financial industry, announced today that the Conning Climate Risk Analyzer™ has been added to the Center for Climate-Aligned Finance’s Climate AIR Toolbox. The toolbox is a directory of tools available to financial services professionals to measure and report their climate-related alignment, impact, and risk.

Conning Climate Risk Analyzer™ provides insurers and pension plans with new ways to explore the impact of climate change for strategic planning and regulatory reporting. The software-as-a-service tool combines stochastic projections from the GEMS® Economic Scenario Generator with the latest thinking on climate change effects within financial markets. A rich set of portfolio risk analytics, including VaR and Excess Climate Risk, are features of the tool, as well as graphical representations of the risk through time. Scenarios of varying severity are part of the package, including an orderly transition scenario, a disorderly transition scenario, failed climate policy, and many others.

“Conning is pleased to have our software be part of this comprehensive directory of climate risk analysis tools,” said Matthew Lightwood, global product manager of Conning’s GEMS® Economic Scenario Generator software. “Financial firms need to understand how possible future climate change scenarios
could affect financial markets and their holdings. This is particularly important for many aspects of regulatory reporting, such as the ORSA for insurance firms. However, there have been few methods developed to explore this beyond simple deterministic stress testing. Our Climate Risk Analyzer software aims to bridge this gap.”

The Center for Climate-Aligned Finance was established by RMI, an independent nonprofit founded in 1982 to improve energy practices in America. The Center aims to help the financial sector transition the global economy toward a zero-carbon, 1.5°C future and works to support financial institutions in decarbonizing their lending and investing portfolios.
